Dune: Part Two (2024)
“May thy knife, chip, and shatter”👹
Decided to see this film in ScreenX last-minute to cleanse my palette after seeing an absolutely horrible one. I always enjoy a good midnight movie, despite not seeing the first "Dune" or reading any of the books.
I absolutely loved the cinematography of this film. Beautiful shots, beautiful close-ups, beautiful landscapes. Absolutely breathtaking, especially seeing it with two other screens surrounding me. Not to mention, getting to see Anya Taylor-Joy and Zendaya with such depth. The fight scene between Timothee and Austin with surrounding screens? Absolutely amazing.
I found some of the movie difficult to follow, mostly because I didn't know what was going on, which was to no fault of the movie; however, I didn't find it as confusing as I thought I would when I considered seeing before seeing the first Dune.
I definitely thought it was similar to "Star Wars," there was even a seen with cargo ships? Tanks? That looked really similar to the Star Wars freighters. I wouldn't necessarily go as far as to say it was "ripping off" Star Wars, but definitely similar to the earlier films.
The storytelling and acting was phenomenal. This film ended around 1-1:30 for me, and I stayed up the entire time (I can't say the same about my friend) because of how immersed I was in the Dune world-building. The Reverend Mothers (both of them) scared the shit out of me. Austin Butler's character was sick as hell, despite me not being able to think of anything other than Elvis when he was speaking. The visual effects are stunning, which was nice to see in a time that there's lots of sloppily-executed CGIs and animations.
Longer movie, but I didn't mind one bit. All of the actors were incredible, including Anya Taylor-Joy's like, 30 seconds of being on screen. Seeing Zendaya in a serious role outside of "Euphoria" was amazing. Seeing Timothee in such an artistic role after my last movie I watched with him in it was "Wonka" was a nice refresher of why he's famous. The movie was easy enough to follow that I didn't feel lost without seeing the first Dune and was still able to track the story being told and the "Prophecy."
Really enjoyable movie with amazing cinematography and dialogue. Loved it, even made me consider going back to watch the first one and telling my sister about the books, as it seems like something she would enjoy. Definitely going to have to come back and rewatch it after some time has passed and, hopefully, after I've seen the first one to see them back-to-back. Glad I made the impulsive decision to go to a second movie and see this on not only the big screen, but three.
